TikToker's lion seized by Punjab wildlife authorities

In a recent development, Punjab Wildlife officials raided the residence of renowned TikToker Khurram Gujjar in Lahore, resulting in the recovery of an African lion. The lion, previously featured in Gujjar's social media videos, has been safely transferred to the Jallo Wildlife Park. The police also discovered a weapon on the premises during the raid. Gujjar, a prominent figure on the popular video-sharing platform TikTok, had garnered attention by sharing videos showcasing interactions with an African lion on his social media accounts. According to statements provided by wildlife officials, the fate of the African lion hinges on Gujjar's possession of the necessary permits and documentation to legally own and house such a creature. If it is established that Gujjar possesses a valid license for keeping the lion, along with verifiable proof of purchase, the animal could potentially be returned to his care in compliance with legal protocols. For the time being, however, the African lion has been relocated to Jallo Wildlife Park, where it will be provided with a suitable environment and professional care. On August 12th, a joint effort between the police and wildlife teams culminated in the removal of a lion from the residence of Mian Saqib in WAPDA Town, Lahore. The lion, much like Gujjar's African lion, was transferred to Jallo Wildlife Park to ensure its well-being. The Punjab Wildlife Act outlines specific regulations regarding the ownership and housing of exotic animals such as lions and tigers. While it permits these creatures to be kept in farmhouses, breeding houses, and private zoos, stringent conditions must be met. This includes obtaining an import permit, securing a license from the Punjab Wildlife department, and furnishing evidence of the legitimate purchase of the animal. Additionally, the act dictates the precise dimensions of the cages required for housing these majestic yet potentially dangerous creatures. Importantly, keeping such wild animals in densely populated urban areas is explicitly prohibited under these regulations. To address the rising instances of individuals harbouring wild animals within urban settings, the Punjab Police have taken proactive measures by establishing a dedicated Police Animal Rescue Center. This newly formed entity possesses the authority to take decisive actions against individuals who contravene the rules and treat animals cruelly.
